Not your typical Sherlock Holmes…

Following the success of The 39 Steps, Drama Mavericks CIC is looking for three fearless, playful performers and a team of dedicated volunteers for our next production.

Three actors. Dozens of characters. One legendary mystery.

We’re looking for performers who:

• Love being in front of an audience

• Enjoy storytelling and comedy

• Are playful, imaginative and collaborative

• Can think on their feet

• Enjoy ensemble work

• Aren’t afraid of taking risks

• Can commit fully to an idea, even when it feels ridiculous

Previous experience in physical theatre, clowning, improvisation, devised theatre, comedy or storytelling is particularly welcome.

But not required. We are looking for players.

People who can create something exciting together.

NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE?

Overview

A windswept moor. A family curse. A gigantic hound. What could possibly go wrong?

This inventive adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic story is a fast-paced theatrical rollercoaster packed with comedy, storytelling, quick changes, audience interaction and theatrical mischief. If you saw The 39 Steps, you’ll have a good idea of the spirit we’re aiming for. Actors playing multiple roles, embracing the impossible, creating entire worlds with simple theatrical tools and inviting the audience along for the ride.

This is not a realistic detective drama. This is a show built on play.

NOW CASTING

All performers will play multiple characters and work directly with the audience throughout.

  • Holmes, Stapleton, Cecile Stapleton, Barrymore, Selden and others.

  • Watson, Yokel and others.

  • Sir Charles Baskerville, Sir Henry Baskerville, Mortimer, Cabbie, Wise Yokel and others.

AUDITIONS

Auditions will be held on Wednesday 8 July & Thursday 9 July 2026 at at St Mary Magalene Church Hall, Norwich. Recall auditions may be held during the week commencing 13 July 2026.

Auditions will take place in one-hour group sessions with up to four actors per session.

This production is being presented on a voluntary basis and all roles are unpaid.

Drama Mavericks CIC exists to create ambitious theatre, develop artists, and contribute to the creative ecology of Norwich and Norfolk. We are committed to creating a supportive and welcoming rehearsal room where people can challenge themselves, develop new skills and make exciting work together.
